Wandering (Online) With No Purpose Is Completely Fine
Today, I would like to circle back to the social media prevalence in our digital lives, allowing myself to get “trapped” inside their endless newsfeeds. No guilt.
Yes, they may be a great source of distraction, and inspiration alike! Cats and babies aside, if we have carefully picked the most relevant and engaging groups and pages, not to mention our like-minded friends and connections, it comes with no surprise that many gems are waiting for us : enchanting meetups, sparkling initiatives, and all kinds of insights shared by your trusted peers.
Every time we dive in our personal corners, some more information come our way, triggering new ideas, refueling our curiosity and willingness to better serve our ideals shared by our peers.
And here’s the tricky part : The virtues of social media may turn into yet another stimulus of.. addiction, waking up some subtle inner voice : “What if I miss something? Let me go check my newsfeed, now!”. Ironically, our pursuit of knowledge and inspiration, if not scheduled, can feed that irrational fear of “not having enough”. Welcome dependency!
I believe that our (almost) daily journey through social media needs to be limited in time and accompanied with a map, a personal one, in which we prioritize the corners (groups, accounts, channels, etc.) which resonate the most with us at that time, as if we were putting together our perfect playlist.
Happy discovering!
